Magistrate Aldren Voss — Chief Magistrate of Grayhaven
Magistrate Aldren Voss is the dragonborn Chief Magistrate responsible for handling the steady stream of ordinary disputes and criminal matters that would otherwise consume Baron Valmont’s days. Property disagreements, unpaid debts, broken contracts, petty theft, licensing violations, drunken disturbances, and the occasional argument over a stolen chicken all eventually arrive before his bench. Aldren is stern, methodical, and relentlessly organized, insisting that testimony be heard properly and records examined before rendering judgment. He has little patience for theatrics, intimidation, or people who believe their wealth makes their time more valuable than the court’s.
Aldren is also famously difficult to bribe. Merchants and nobles have learned that gifts offered at suspiciously convenient moments are likely to be entered into the official record rather than quietly accepted. Although some residents find him intimidating, even his critics generally acknowledge that Aldren strives to apply Grayhaven’s laws consistently. He is not without dry humor, however; after particularly ridiculous cases, he has been known to remark that Grayhaven survived the Orc Wars only so its magistrates could someday determine who actually owns a neighbor’s wandering goat.
