Lady Elowen Valmont — Baronial Consort & Court Advisor
Lady Elowen Valmont is the elven consort of Baron Cedric Valmont III and one of the quietest yet most influential figures within Grayhaven’s court. Intelligent, composed, and exceptionally perceptive, she rarely gives commands in public and makes little effort to compete with her husband for attention. Instead, Elowen is usually found listening while others speak, asking an occasional carefully chosen question, and remembering details that everyone else has forgotten. Those who regularly attend court have noticed that Baron Cedric takes her counsel seriously, often seeking a private word with her before making difficult political, diplomatic, or legal decisions.
Elowen has developed a particular reputation for recognizing when someone is concealing something. She does not accuse people recklessly; instead, an inconsistency in a story, an uncomfortable hesitation, or a carefully avoided subject seems enough to attract her attention. Merchants preparing to negotiate at Highwatch Keep sometimes joke that dealing with the Baron requires a good argument, while dealing with Lady Elowen requires the truth—or at least a very convincing imitation of it. Despite this reputation, she is generally regarded as thoughtful and courteous, using her insight less to embarrass others than to ensure Grayhaven's ruler understands what is actually happening beneath the polite words spoken in his court.
