GrayHaven’s Adventurer’s Guild

GrayHaven, Organizations, World Lore

Purpose of the Guild

Grayhaven sits at the edge of civilized territory. Its walls may protect the town, but its prosperity depends upon people willing to travel beyond them.

The Guild provides an organized way to do that.

It serves simultaneously as an explorers' society, mercenary registry, monster-hunting organization, cartographers' association, expedition company, and frontier intelligence network.

Its five primary goals are:

  1. Protect Grayhaven from monsters, raiders, supernatural threats, and dangers discovered beyond its walls.
  2. Explore the Unknown by mapping wilderness, ruins, caves, abandoned settlements, and forgotten roads.
  3. Secure Prosperity by discovering resources, reopening trade routes, protecting merchants, and recovering valuable artifacts.
  4. Build Alliances with neighboring settlements, clans, guilds, temples, and other powers.
  5. Preserve Knowledge by recording discoveries and maintaining maps, journals, monster reports, and expedition records.

Guild Structure

The Guild deliberately keeps its bureaucracy relatively small.

At its head is the Guildmaster, supported by four senior officers.

Guildmaster

Brom Hadrikson

A veteran of several wars and countless expeditions, Brom is respected because he has actually survived the dangers he sends adventurers to face.

He reports directly to Grayhaven's ruling authority when matters threaten the town, but fiercely protects the Guild's independence.

Guild Marshal

Lysa Thornwell

Responsible for adventurers themselves.

She manages:

  • Recruitment
  • Party formation
  • Contract assignments
  • Discipline
  • Training
  • Promotions
  • Expedition readiness

Lysa is usually the person adventurers deal with when accepting important contracts.

Quartermaster

Thamrik “Cog” Vex

Responsible for supplies and equipment.

His domain includes:

  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Expedition equipment
  • Rations
  • Rope
  • Lantern oil
  • Pack animals
  • Specialized equipment
  • Recovered equipment

Cog can seemingly obtain anything.

The price is another matter.

Sage & Archivist

Seraphine Vale

Keeper of the Guild Archive.

Seraphine maintains:

  • Expedition journals
  • Maps
  • Historical documents
  • Monster records
  • Artifact descriptions
  • Ancient languages
  • Rumors
  • Records of unexplained phenomena

Adventurers frequently discover that Seraphine knows considerably more about their destination than she initially admits.

Field Agent

Kael Dorne

Kael operates beyond the Guildhall.

He maintains contacts with merchants, hunters, smugglers, scouts, guards, travelers, and occasionally less reputable individuals.

When rumors begin circulating about something strange in the wilderness, Kael is often the first Guild member to hear about it.

Guild Ranks

Guild membership follows five recognized ranks.

Applicant → Journeyman → Veteran → Champion → Legend

Applicant — Prospective member. Must complete a sponsored expedition before receiving full membership.

Journeyman — Full Guild member. Eligible for ordinary contracts and expeditions.

Veteran — Proven adventurer trusted with dangerous missions and sensitive information.

Champion — Senior adventurer capable of commanding expeditions and acting officially on behalf of the Guild.

Legend — The Guild's highest honor. Reserved for individuals whose deeds have permanently affected Grayhaven or the surrounding region.
