Tucked along one of GrayHaven’s busier market streets, The Bitter Bottle is a narrow apothecary marked by a weathered hanging sign painted with a dark glass vial wrapped in curling green leaves. The shop’s front window is crowded with neatly arranged bottles, ceramic jars, bundled herbs, and folded cloth packets tied with colored string. Even before stepping inside, the sharp scents of mint, vinegar, dried roots, and medicinal oils seem to cling to the doorway.
Inside, the shop is warm, cramped, and meticulously organized. Shelves climb nearly to the ceiling, packed with potions, tonics, salves, poultices, antidotes, and other prepared remedies. Nothing here resembles the clutter of a wizard’s shop—there are no scrolls, strange enchanted curiosities, or piles of spell components. Everything sold at The Bitter Bottle is meant to be swallowed, rubbed onto a wound, soaked into a bandage, or otherwise used to keep someone alive and moving.
Behind the counter stands Elira Therlahne, a sharp-eyed half-elf with streaks of silver running through her dark hair. She has the calm, practiced manner of someone who has treated far too many cuts, bites, burns, and foolish accidents to be easily surprised. Elira is polite but direct, and she has little patience for customers who exaggerate their injuries or ignore her instructions. Locals trust her knowledge, and guards, laborers, travelers, and adventurers regularly pass through her door.
The Bitter Bottle has earned a quiet reputation throughout GrayHaven as the place to visit when a priest is unnecessary, unavailable, or simply too expensive. Adventurers often stop here before heading beyond the town walls, and returning travelers frequently arrive battered, poisoned, or carrying some strange injury they hope Elira has seen before. More often than not, she has.
